Connect Google Tag Manager to Profitscaler

The one thing Profitscaler cannot work without. Your server container asks what an order was worth, and gets a number back before the tag fires.

Overview

A server-side GTM container is the only hard requirement. It is what turns a purchase into a server-to-server request carrying line items, and line items are what make a real profit calculation possible rather than an estimate. We generate the container file for your store. The template, a variable holding your own keys, the event-data variable and the transformation that resolves the lookup once per order. You import it. Nobody retypes a key.

How it works

On every purchase event, a variable in your server container calls us with the order's line items. We answer with the profit left after cost of goods, VAT, shipping, payment fees and handling, inside the few hundred milliseconds the container is willing to wait. The value lands on the event, where any tag in that container can read it. If the lookup fails for any reason, the container falls back to a margin estimate and sends that instead, so a conversion is never lost.

How to configure

In Profitscaler, finish onboarding step 3 and download the container file for your store.
In your server container at tagmanager.google.com, go to Admin → Import Container and merge it into your existing workspace. (Important that you do not select Overwrite while importing)
Preview, then publish.
Place a test order and watch validation turn green on real data.
